Synopsis: The nephews have turned into soap haters but
Donald does not concur. Off to the bath...
Comments: Cleanliness is one of the top priorities for
any responsible parent, so Donald is distraught
when his nephews suddenly are not compliant
anymore. The nephews had similar whims in WDCS184.
WDCS072
- 1946
Synopsis: It is the first day after the holidays and
Donald discovers that the nephews have run away
from home. He goes after them.
Comments: This is not the only time the nephews played
hooky in Barks' stories. And, as a responsible
parent, Donald reacts in the proper way by
bringing them to understand their error.
WDCS085
- 1947
Synopsis: The nephews are forced by Donald to learn to
be great musicians but they are not that
interested...
Comments: Isn't it all parents' wish that their
offspring should grow up and amount to something?
Barks wrote several stories in which Donald tried
to make his nephews interested in the world of
music - but always with very limited success!
WDCS170
- 1954
Synopsis: Donald encourages the nephews to study the
industrious ants and their way of life but they
end up taking the wind out of his sails.
Comments: Again, Donald tries his best to impart some
knowledge to the nephews. This time he thinks
they should know about the smallest of creatures.
Barks wrote several other stories containing the
same basic idea of getting in touch with nature;
examples are WDCS214 and WDCS274.
WDCS189
- 1956
Synopsis: Donald decides to beautify his
backyard at springtime but there are gophers
below with different ideas...
Comments: In this story Barks gives us yet another
example of dealing with nature. But this time
there is a twist; now the nephews are teaching
Donald how nature works...
WDCS199
- 1957
Synopsis: Gyro invents an imagining machine by
which one by force of thought can travel wherever
he wants. Donald and the nephews pop up to
Jupiter, where everything is much larger than on
Earth!
Comments: Barks very seldom tried to teach his readers
'heavy' lessons in his stories, but this one is a
case example of a story in which Donald really
teaches his nephews a few things about
comparative sizes - in an entertaining manner...
WDCS249
- 1961
Synopsis: Donald does not believe the nephews'
science fiction magazines stories about sending
matter through space. But Gyro can send Donald
through space!
Comments: For decades parents have been trying to give
their offspring good and solid reading habits,
and for some reason books always seem to be
preferred to magazines and comics(!). Donald
agrees...
