Nuclear
families are rare occurrences in Carl Barks' duck universe. The
family structures mostly seem to consist of children raised by
aunts and uncles. So Donald Duck and his three nephews are a very
typical Duckburg family. Typical? Well, how typical can a
swashbuckling, flamboyant, reckless and boastful family be
compared to a normal, human family? Still, they do have normal
values; they laugh and cry together, they help and fight each
other, and they are tolerant and unpredictable towards each other.
In short, the Ducks are a hyperactive family in a high gear. Let's
have a look at some of their many facets of behaviour...
Note: You are
presented with examples - in chronological order - from the WDCS
10-pagers exclusively, and all 9 groups contain 7 examples each.
There are a great many stories that have been omitted in the
presentation (you will undoubtedly miss a few of your own
favourites), but care has been taken to ensure that the chosen
examples are as diverse as possible within the groups, offering
you the best chance of enjoying Barks' impressive diversity.
Furthermore, most of his stories are normally so multifaceted and
the plots so complex that the same story could easily fit into
more than one group. Therefore you should just think of the given
classification as a loose division.
