Synopsis: Donald brags that he knows all the old
snowball tricks so the nephews can't resist
challenging him...
Comments: Especially in the early years, Barks wrote
many stories inspired and influenced by the often
crazed tempo in the Disney animated shorts. The
plots were basically the same; Donald and the
nephews on collision course...
WDCS045
- 1944
Synopsis: Donald and the nephews are running competing
boat rentals for fishermen. Donald sabotages
their boat in order to get the customer...
Comments: This time Barks takes the conflicts to a
higher plane; the Ducks are not only fighting
over small disagreements; Donald and the nephews
are both trying to earn a living. Barks wrote a
number of stories with this basic theme - in WDCS186
the ducks were also fighting over different
transportation methods.
WDCS046
- 1944
Synopsis: Donald tries to snap a photo worth a great
sum of money but he has to find the right motive
first!
Comments: The basic conflict is still about money, but
this time it has a more competitive angle,
because the Ducks compete to earn prize money in
their free time. WDCS057
contains a similar plot.
WDCS064
- 1946
Synopsis: Donald's New Year's resolution is to hold
his temper. How hard can that be?
Comments: Grave conflicts can arise from the oddest
reasons. As soon as the nephews learn that Donald
has vowed never to get angry again, they
immediately begin to pester him!
WDCS079
- 1947
Synopsis: Donald and Daisy go out for a picnic and the
nephews wants to join them instead of going to
school. But the answer is 'No!' so they decide to
ruin the picnic instead!
Comments: The nephews are real nuisances in this story
in which Donald only tries to have some quality
time with his girlfriend. When he at long last
fights back the passions run high - ruining both
parties. The nephews tried a similar stunt in WDCS250.
WDCS090
- 1948
Synopsis: Donald and the nephews are messenger boys
and Donald makes sure that he gets all the easy
jobs. But revenge is near!
Comments: This time Donald is harassing the nephews,
because they have more success than him. His
jealousy transforms into a bitter competition -
from which the nephews come out on top.
WDCS223
- 1959
Synopsis: The nephews have been building kites all
winter long and now - on the first spring day -
they want to try them out. Donald is more
interested in fishing...
Comments: Barks succeeded in varying the conflict
theme by dreaming up a special plot in which the
first party, Donald, is not even aware that he is
acting heartlessly, while the second party, the
nephews, are taking all the setbacks with
tremendous patience.
