REPERCUSSIONS

WDCS035 - 1943

Synopsis:
Despite several warnings, Donald takes the nephews out into the desert where he promptly gets lost!

Comments:
Often we are presented to one of Donald's less attractive sides - his inclination to act as if he knows it all. And his arrogance always backfires in the end. In this story he is unable to lead the nephews back to the dude ranch, and when he finally thinks he has succeeded, it is the wrong ranch! More examples from the American west: in WDCS055 Donald promotes himself as a great cowhand, in WDCS0059 he is confident that he can tame a colt, and in WDCS219 he thinks he gets the better of a wild coyote. In all three cases he ends up failing miserably.

WDCS070 - 1946

Synopsis:
The nephews beg Donald for a small and lively multi-breed dog but he insists on buying a posh and pedigreed one...

Comments:
Donald is a snob in this story. He is unable to recognize the qualities in the nephews' stray dog, an attitude which almost leads him into disaster.

WDCS129 - 1951

Synopsis:
Donald gets tired of working in his garden and he decides to install a swimming pool instead. Big mistake!

Comments:
Donald makes it clear from the start that the pool is for his use only, but after having had some nasty experiences with several groups from the neighbourhood, he crumbles and changes the pool back into a vegetable garden.

WDCS132 - 1951

Synopsis:
The nephews are going to try out for different JW merit badges but then Donald decides to help them...

Comments:
Donald is honestly trying to be very helpful to the nephews, but they would rather be left alone. Because their uncle's knowledge about basic scout merits seems to be based on his lacking - to say the least - abilities from his own boy scout days. The catastrophic results unfold during the story.

WDCS142 - 1952

Synopsis:
Donald wants a quiet vacation along with his nephews so he rents a houseboat.

Comments:
The story starts with Donald boasting to his neighbour that he finally has found the perfect type of summer vacation for himself and the nephews - a slow-floating houseboat. But disasters quickly mount up around him, and in the last panels he admits regretting his decision to the neighbour.

WDCS213 - 1958

Synopsis:
Donald is doing whatever he can in order to avoid being forced to take part in Daisy's yearly spring cleaning...

Comments:
Apparently another of Donald's unattractive sides - his inclination to sneak away from helping his girlfriend. Furthermore, he has no hesitation dropping the nephews off at her house, so they can help her instead. Then the chase for Donald is on; he is hunted by Daisy, the nephews and, not least, the JW hound to such a degree that he finally succumbs to his fate. And that would have been much easier in the first place!

WDCS257 - 1962

Synopsis:
Donald is trying out his new movie camera. He especially likes to film the nephews - in embarrassing situations...

Comments:
What starts out being great fun - for Donald! - ends abruptly when the tables are turned; the nephews get hold of the camera, and now Donald is prey!
