CARNIVOROUS

MONKEY

  FC0029 Too Many Pets - 1943

Synopsis:
Donald is tired of the nephews' many pets and he decides that they can only have one. They choose a trained monkey...

Comments:
At first Donald does not care much for the monkey, but it earns its keep by helping out - and catching a dangerous spy. NB.: Barks' monkey might be a chimpanzee, and although these animals are known to be prevailingly herbivorous they can also be carnivorous.

RATS

  WDCS052 'Rat Invasion' - 1945

Synopsis:
Things tend to disappear in Donald's house and he discovers that a trade rat is the culprit. It has to go...

Comments:
Donald is not exactly successful in his attempt to annihilate the bothersome rat - in fact, it invites all its friends to spend some enjoyable hours in Donald's house! In U$31 All at Sea the nephews kept white rats for research, but they turned out to be quite helpful...

DOGS

  WDCS070 'The Pedigree Dog' - 1946

Synopsis:
The nephews beg Donald for a small and lively multi-breed dog but he insists on buying a posh and pedigreed one...

Comments:
This story carries not one but two dogs in starring roles: the nephews' plain Tagalong and Donald's hoity-toity Grand Genius III of Old Siwash! Barks made several stories with dogs in the plots; the sorrowful bloodhound in WDCS152 'The Talking Dog' and the sly sheepdog in WDCS238 The dog-sitter are other examples. Besides those Barks presented us to two recurring dogs namely the Saint Bernard Bornworthy owned by the Ducks, and the bloodhound General Snozzie owned by the Junior Woodchucks.

CAT

  WDCS076 'Catastrophic Cat' - 1947

Synopsis:
Donald wants to rise bright and early to go fishing, but a stray cat ensures that he doesn't get his sleep...

Comments:
...on the contrary, it keeps Donald wide awake all night with its meowing. No wonder it needs a bit of sleep the next day when it is supposed to be vigilant for Donald! Surprisingly, this was Barks' only story with one of man's most common household pets.

BEARS

  FC0178 Christmas on Bear Mountain - 1947

Synopsis:
Donald and the nephews are borrowing Uncle Scrooge's mountain cabin for Christmas, but Scrooge's intention is to figure out just how brave Donald really is...

Comments:
...by dressing up as a bear in a bearskin! But before it comes to that the Ducks have been chasing a bear cub around in the cabin, while mother bear have been chasing the Ducks around!

FOXES

  WDCS098 'Outfoxed!' - 1948

Synopsis:
Scrooge convinces Donald to participate in a fox hunt but the fox is rather sly...

Comments:
As a matter of fact it only comes if forgetful Donald calls it by its given name (which is Red Herring, by the way)! Barks made a similar story in U$30 Yoicks! The Fox! in which Scrooge was in the very same predicament, when he was not able to remember the fox's name (which was Hummingbird, by the way).

WOLF

  WDCS141 'The Think Boxes' - 1952

Synopsis:
Gyro has invented a pair of think boxes that can reveal the thoughts of animals. Donald gets heavily involved...

Comments:
At first he tries to ridicule Gyro and the nephews' efforts, but soon gets entangled with a wolf, who is very determined to have roast duck for dinner!

TIGER

  U$09 The Tuckered Tiger - 1955

Synopsis:
Scrooge offers the prize of his own weight in diamonds to the owner of the animal that can outrun his wonder-horse. He feels confident that no one will come to collect!

Comments:
Scrooge is more or less correct; the horse gets one competitor, but it is an old, miserable, gout-ridden tiger. Still, it manages to win the race - without even lifting a paw...

COYOTE

  WDCS219 'Coyote Taming' - 1958

Synopsis:
When Grandma Duck captures a coyote puppy that is stealing her chickens, Donald tries to tame it to be a pet...

Comments:
...and when that fails he tries to subdue the animal by using hypnotism. Two strong wills meet. Who has the strongest? Well, have a look at the panel to avoid a panel discussion...

LIONS

  FC1055 The Librarian - 1959

Synopsis:
Daisy is a librarian and has to collect an overdue book from Scrooge. But it is not that easy as it is guarded by a real live lion...

Comments:
The lion has a peculiarity; normally it is sweet as a kitten, but it runs amuck when somebody shouts! In WDCS203 'The Lion's Part' we meet another lion with another peculiarity; it must have its daily zebra chops at a precise time - or it will begin to weep...
