1958-1960

  WDCS208 'Roscoe the Reindeer' - 1958

Synopsis:
The nephews are having fun with their sled in the snowy hills but it is tiresome to drag the sled upwards. Luckily, Gladstone has a reindeer!

Comments:
Gladstone's only action in this story is to donate his reindeer to the nephews.

  WDCS212 'Scavenger Hunt' - 1958

Synopsis:
As Donald flies a rocket ship around the earth he has to fill it up with specific objects on the way. This is a condition for participating in a contest. His only opponent is Gladstone...

Comments:
Gladstone manages to collect one object after another always being just one step ahead of the Ducks.

  WDCS215 'Ridges and Riches' - 1958

Synopsis:
Scrooge is looking for some land with an echo. Donald tries to sell him his half of a promising ridge - with the nephews acting as echoes...

Comments:
Gladstone quickly discovers that the Ducks are working to lure their uncle, so he intervenes, not out of the goodness of his heart but because he wants to sell Scrooge the other half of the ridge - which he himself owns...

  WDCS217 'Stage-struck' - 1958

Synopsis:
Donald is stage struck and he is offered the leading role in Daisy's drama club. Unfortunately, Gladstone is interested in the very same part...

Comments:
The two adversaries do their best, i.e. worst, to foil the other's plans and actions.

  U$25 'Darn Kittens' - 1959

Synopsis:
Scrooge tries to get rid of a newborn batch of kittens to several of his family members.

Comments:
This story is a one-pager, in fact the only one in which Gladstone participated.

  WDCS224 'The Awful Picnic' - 1959

Synopsis:
At the Beachcomber's picnic every guy has to find something special for his girlfriend. Donald finds a fine cowry shell for Daisy, but then Gladstone joins the party!

Comments:
It is well-known that Barks made a number of rewritings of some of his 10-pagers resulting in new stories with new elements. This one is a repeat of WDCS117 'The Flooded Picnic', and Donald suffers the same defeats in this new rendering. Also, Gladstone tries to rescue Daisy from a flood, this time, though, he uses - a giant rubber elephant!

  WDCS225 'The Choice' - 1959

Synopsis:
Donald is a volunteer fireman and he is often called out when he is courting Daisy at her house. Then Gladstone moves in...

Comments:
Gladstone clearly demonstrates that he is extremely self-centered. It is more important to him to save his records from a fire than to save Daisy!

  FC1047 The Lost Rabbit Foot - 1959

Synopsis:
Gyro is visited by Gladstone who has lost his lucky rabbit's foot in the harbour. Can Gyro retrieve it?

Comments:
The story starts, continues, and ends with Gladstone just snoozing away at the quay side, while his good luck charm is being retrieved for him.

  FC1055 Donald's Party - 1959

Synopsis:
Donald invites Daisy to a Come-As-You-Are Party at the exact moment when she is trying out a new party dress. Will anyone believe her?

Comments:
Gladstone is purely an ornamental guest at the party. He does not even speak!

  FC1095 The Bear Tamer - 1960

Synopsis:
Gyro is rounded up by Gladstone who wants him to invent a bear tamer so he can be the new King of Luck at his club...

Comments:
Despite a distinct lack of luck (Gyro's Little Helper saves the day by single-handedly pacifying a wild bear), Gladstone's wish comes through in the end.

  FC1150 Too Much Help - 1960

Synopsis:
Daisy and Gladstone rush to Grandma Duck's farm. They are under the impression that she desperately needs help.

Comments:
A bit puzzling to experience Gladstone in this story, because he is not only volunteering to help a fellow being out, he is also working!!!

  WDCS243 Turkey Trouble - 1960

Synopsis:
When Donald is tricked into buying a plot of land filled with chickens disguised as turkeys he tries to trick Gladstone in turn...

Comments:
He who catches the most Thanksgiving turkeys wins a date with Daisy, the festival queen. But she has to back down and the winner (Gladstone, of course) becomes the loser...
