Once the identity of Carl Barks was revealed all those years ago he was kept busy with the fandom that invaded his privacy. Hardly a day passed without a letter, a visit from a fan, an official event or an interview. In retrospect, one can only wonder how he managed without going to pieces. But Barks was a gentle and generous man who did not have the ability to say no. In fact, he was both happy and honoured to experience all the attention for 'just making some duck stories'. Through the years the fandom escalated into fanatism and sheer worship. The word 'Barksism' was born.

Barks may never have fully comprehended the magnitude of his success - although the triumphant European tour must have given him a clue - but it is certain that his work will live for aeons to come. Good art never dies.

The task of showing Barksism in all its forms and shapes is, of course, an impossibility but this page will hopefully serve as a portal in some small way.
