'Gall of a Gull' - 1963 Synopsis:
Gyro is using his combined rocket belt and
portable sprayer to paint the new bridge. But a
seagull is not at all impressed by the ingenious
and busy inventor...
Comments:
A rocket belt, that can lift a man up into
the air and make it possible for him to fly
around at will, was first seen publicly at the
1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA, where it
flabbergasted the world at the opening ceremony.
This goes to show that Barks was ahead of his
time - on this occasion by 21 years!
But Gyro invented several other devices of the
same basic nature; several hovercraft cars (FC1184
Monsterville, SF Fun, What's
That?, U$17 'Tricky Tackle',
U$47 'Man Versus Machine'), a
hovercraft boat (U$35 Fast Away Castaway),
a bike-saucer (FC1047 The Stubborn Stork),
floating chairs (CP8 Grandma's Present,
U$20 'Roscoe the Robot'), and
even a floating hammock (U14 'Fencing Off
the Neighbour') ...
