In his stories from the duck universe Carl
Barks both mentioned and drew countless inventions. Some of them
were just mentioned briefly, some were drawn modestly in the
background, while others were substantial to the stories' plots.
The sub-pages will give examples from the latter group only, and
there are a great many of very diverse inventions to choose from,
because Barks made many stories where inventions played an
important part. Not all together surprising, because he always
had a secret dream of becoming a real inventor of different
gadgets!
As we all know, Barks never came around to pursue this dream, and
instead he channelled some of his ideas out through one of his
characters, the ingenious Gyro Gearloose (commonly known as
Inventor of Anything), and seeing his inventions we have no
reason to doubt the validity of this impressive title. The sub-pages
will offer examples of some of his more spectacular realistic and
unrealistic inventions, but Barks did not stop there. Through the
years he allowed many other inventors from the duck universe to
present their inventions as well, and a few of these inventive
people are also credited in the sub-pages.
A great many inventions are mentioned in the stories, but the examples only include the ones that are crucial to the plots. Also, it is important to know that the comments primarily mention the inventions as they were known - or not known - at the time of the individual stories.
