Some of the primary characters in Carl Barks' funny animal comic book stories tend to be perceived as less than successful in several situations. But although they are seen in an unflattering light, they have all had their red-letter days as well. This page attempts to give a few examples of a specific character in uncharacteristic situations.
Although Gladstone Gander is generally portrayed as a triumphant and extremely lucky character, most of his luck originates and thrives from his shady and less attractive nature and at the expense of other persons. Below you are treated to some of his more humane, but less remembered, triumphant moments.
CP2 You Can't Guess This is the only story, in which Gladstone is actually prepared to help family members financially and from a pure heart. In this Christmas story he buys expensive presents; lots of toys for the nephews and a brand-new car for Donald! |

WDCS131 'The Unluckiest Golfer' Donald has bad luck whenever he comes near Gladstone, but on the golf course tables are turned. Poor Gladstone is besieged by bad luck, until he, in the end, can triumph quite unwittingly. |

WDCS207 'Desert Contests' Donald, Scrooge, and Gladstone are competing to win a uranium mine in several desert contests. After having won all the contests up to a point he graciously backs down to let his relatives win the rest. |
