All of the primary characters in Carl Barks' funny animal comic book stories have had their ups and downs through the years. When they failed, they always had a price to pay in the end whether it be loss of prestige, credibility, reputation, or money. This page gives a few examples of some of the normally very lucky Gladstone Gander's most regrettable moments.

WDCS131 'A Day at the Golf Course' By chance Gladstone and Donald meet on the golf course. Gladstone is unlucky all the time, while Donald is lucky...	WDCS103 'The Maharajah's Ruby' In this story Donald finds a precious ruby and Gladstone is reduced to being the driver of Donald's brand-new car.	WDCS136 'Turkey Raffle' One can also be too lucky. Gladstone wins so many turkeys for Christmas that he is not even able to give them away!
MOC41 Race to the South Seas Gladstone thought that he had it made when he found the missing Scrooge on a tropical island, but the old miser did not want to be found.	FC1161 The Training Farm Fuss Gladstone's romantic dream of being a toreador never really takes off, because Grandma's good-natured bull refuses to play...	WDCS140 'Gladstone's Dark Secret' Scrooge, Donald, and the nephews accidentally stumble over Gladstone's best kept, dark secret - a dime, the only wage he has ever earned.
WDCS151 'The Easter Parade' Gladstone is about to be elected Grand Marshal over Donald at the Easter Parade, when he suddenly comes down with measles (courtesy of the nephews), and has to go into quarantine.	WDCS243 Turkey Trouble He who catches the most Thanksgiving turkeys wins a date with Daisy, the festival queen. But she has to back down and the winner (Gladstone, of course) becomes the loser...	WDCS167 'The Fishing Contest' Gladstone wins the great fishing prize - an elaborate car - from under the nose of Donald, but he rescues a little girl from drowning instead - and reaps even bigger benefits.
WDCS225 'Volunteer Fireman' While Donald is at work as a fireman Gladstone barges in to woo Daisy, but when a fire breaks out his feelings towards Daisy are not as deep as those to his belongings.	WDCS117 'The Wildflower Picnic' Gladstone and Donald eagerly try to be Daisy's suitor at a picnic, and in the end they battle it out. Their demeanour causes Daisy to choose the nephews as her suitors instead.	WDCS270 The Jinxed Jalopy Race Gladstone plays a nasty trick on Donald which gets him arrested and sentenced, thus prohibiting him from being Daisy's cavalier at the ball. Little did he know that he ended up dating another girl...
