DONALD'S FAMILY TREE
Family
trees for the Disney characters have always been surrounded by
mist. No wonder, because it has never been the company's policy
to show if the characters have regular family structures. Thus
the mouse world and the duck world are filled with distant and
diffuse family members such as uncles and nephews.
Still, Barks tried a few times to establish some sort of loose
family ties for the members of his duck universe as seen below.
THE FIRST VERSION |
Sometime in the early 1950s Barks roughed out a family tree for Donald. It was during the period of time when Barks was 'founding' Duckburg and he felt that it might be helpful to create a community around Donald and make him part of a cohesive family pattern. The outline was made for Barks' personal use. |
THE SECOND VERSION |
In 1990 Barks sketched another family tree for duck artist Don Rosa. It differs from the first version on several points, partly because Barks did not remember the contents of his first version. For instance does it not mention Old 'Scotty' McDuck. |
