Carl Barks' adult life can be divided into three time periods: the years of different odd jobs, the years as a comic book writer and artist, and the years of painting. These pages will show how the two latter periods have a bridge between them.  Barks drew a great number of front covers for Western and a lot of them were later reworked into paintings. The paintings are amazingly similar to the covers that inspired them. The following pages show all of them. They have each been given a page of their own to show them in reasonable sizes.
The numbers (and titles) used, refer to the most commonly recognized numbering system for Barks' paintings. About half of the front covers shown are taken from the Danish Donald Duck magazine just to show you how his work was presented in Denmark.
