All of the primary characters in Carl Barks' funny animal comic book stories have had their ups and downs through the years. When they failed, they always had a price to pay in the end whether it be loss of prestige, credibility, reputation, or money. This page gives a few examples of some of the Beagle Boys' most regrettable moments.

U$38 The Unsafe Safe

Scrooge has encased the safe in his Money Bin in such a way that he loosens up on security. So the Boys march in! Three times they succeed in blowing up massive amounts of explosives, but the safe remains unharmed! At long last the Boys are marched out by a policeman telling them that 'a little old lady across the street has complained about the noise' ...

U$37 Deep Down Doings

Occasionally the Boys satisfy themselves with relatively minor heists as in this case, where they are 'only' after a fortune in pearls which they plan to rob from Scrooge. But despite their combined efforts of trying to lay their hands on the pearls, Scrooge manages to foil the Boys. As usual...

FC0495 'Water Tank Bin'

Scrooge exchanges his coins into bills that are placed in a Beagle Boys-proof water tank. They manage to simply roll it along - with two kidnapped ducks inside. This proves fatal to the plan, because after they manage to free themselves they are able to remove the money. So when the hopeful Boys open the tank the next morning they are 'greeted' by the police force...

U$39 Tricky Experiment

Scrooge keeps his money in a round tank and the Boys try to tow it away. Obviously, they did not learn their lesson from FC0495 'Water Tank Bin', so they try to duplicate their trick of rolling off with the money. Needless to say that Scrooge is in full control, this time using modern technology. The Boys are outwitted once again...

U$70 The Doom Diamond

The Boys aim to rob Scrooge of his latest purchase, the biggest diamond in the world, when he transports it home on his special pirate-proof vessel. No problem! The Boys simply build a bigger vessel to do battle with Scrooge! But they lack some crucial gadgets that save the day for Scrooge...

FC1025 Mastering the Matterhorn

This is another story containing a giant diamond. The Boys are in Europe to dig up the huge diamond they once stole and buried in the snow at the very top of the Matterhorn. Coincidentally, the vacationing Ducks are at the location as well, and they happen to find the hidden loot and carry it off...

U$42 The Case of the Sticky Money

This time the Boys have constructed an ingenious system of small belt-driven vehicles that can make their way inside through the ventilation system and bring out the money little by little. Had the Boys only contented themselves with minor 'withdrawals' instead of flaunting their massive, ill-gotten wealth, they probably could have lived on this steady income for the rest of their lives. But now Scrooge is on to them!

FC1184 Mighty but Miserable

Lo and behold; the Boys kick out one of their brothers for being too dumb for the organisation!!! But 176-176 is clever enough to seek up Gyro Gearloose and get him to power up his brain. But the powers only last for one hour, in which time the normally harmless Gyro manages to power up on his strength. The fooled, disappointed - and now vindictive - Boys haven't got a chance when they come a-knocking on Gyro's door...

U$08 'The Stone-ray Machine'

A story with no real crime performed by the Boys! They are pure victims, who have accidentally landed on an uncharted Pacific island. Here a strange scientist transforms all of the Boys but one - who manages to escape - to stone using a special ray machine. The escapee succeeds in calling help using a bottled S.O.S. message which is, in turn, received by the Ducks and Scrooge, of all people. They get to finally save the Boys from a dire fate...

U$07 'Cibola'

This is another of the rare stories in which the Boys perform no real crime. By sheer coincidence the Boys hear Scrooge and the Ducks talk about the fabled golden cities of Cibola in a café, and they decide to follow the ducks out in the desert. After actually finding the cities, that are filled with valuables, the Boys manage to scare the ducks for a brief moment. Still, none from the two parties return with any valuables in the end...

U$35 Gift Lion

Maybe we could simply bluff our way into the Money Bin, the Boys may have reasoned in this story. At least, this is exactly what they do; one comes disguised as a game hunter from Africa, and the other as - a lion!!! Leaving the 'lion' as a present for Scrooge (who can resist a free gift?) the Boys return during the night only to discover that Scrooge has exchanged their brother for a real guarding lion. The battered parties meet in court...

U$23 The Strange Shipwrecks

The Boys are making an honest living as lighthouse keepers, and they have been doing this for two full years!!! To maintain their jobs they are forced to disguise themselves beyond recognition, though. One would think that the Boys are afraid of honest work, but if they can benefit richly from it, apparently they are not (they are after Scrooge's gold-laden ships). One can almost feel sorry for the hardworking Boys when all turns out to be a wasted effort...
