TALES' TRANSPORT
U$50 Rug Riders in the Sky - 1964

Synopsis:
Scrooge buys a flying carpet at a bazaar in Baghdad but only Magica knows how to use it!

Comments:
In a number of his stories Barks turned to ancient myths and legends as the basis for his plots. And in some of them he would naturally use the means of transport described. In this one he uses a magic carpet as known from especially Arabian tales, and in WDCS254 Jet Witch he uses the good old broomstick that witches are supposed to prefer as their primary means of transport.

ONE-MAN HELICOPTER
  WDCS209 'The Flying Mailman' - 1958

Synopsis:
Donald has a postal route in an incredibly difficult area to travel in, but luck smiles upon him one day as he discovers the advantages of a one-man helicopter...

Comments:
This invention by Barks seems very straightforward and natural, but still, after all these years from the story's first publication, there has been no serious attempts to realize that means of transport in real life. Perhaps the invention will come one day, which only goes to demonstrate that Barks was ahead of his time - in this field also...

ONE-MAN FLYERS
  U$46 'Uplifting Paint Job' - 1963

Synopsis:
Gyro is using his combined rocket belt and portable sprayer to paint the new bridge. But a seagull is not at all impressed by the ingenious and busy inventor...

Comments:
Again, Barks was ahead of his time - on this occasion by 21 years! His invention primarily consisted of a rocket belt that could lift a man up into the air and make it possible for him to fly around at will. A similar, working apparatus was introduced to the flabbergasted world at the opening ceremony of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
In FC1047 The Stubborn Stork from 1959(!) Gyro and Barks made another invention of a similar type - a flying one-man bike-saucer. Gyro even offered a handful for sale...

FLYING SLEDS
WDCS233 Knights of the Flying Sleds - 1960

Synopsis:
The nephews are roaming the neighbourhood on Gyro's airborne sleds trying to help people. But help is not always welcome...

Comments:
Another of Gyro's ingenious inventions powered by air jets!

TELEPORTS
  WDCS249 Stranger than Fiction - 1961

Synopsis:
Donald does not believe the nephews' science fiction magazines stories about sending matter through space. But Gyro can send Donald through space!

Comments:
Barks used teleportation as a different means of transport on several occasions; in this story Donald is physically transported from one place to another, in U$25 'The Wishing Well' Gyro dreamt himself to a tropical island, and in WDCS199 'Bigger and Bigger' the ducks travelled in space using an imagining machine.

ALL-ROUND TRANSPORT
  FC1184 Monsterville - 1961

Synopsis:
Gyro has made his greatest invention. He has changed Duckburg into a place of total relaxation. But is everybody happy?

Comments:
The changed Duckburg is teeming with ultramodern transport devices such as air-cushion cars, slideways, and monorails. And when Duckburg is brought back to its original self, because the inhabitants were annoyed with all the new inventions, we see Gyro driving off in an apparently normal car - but as it turns out, it has hidden wings, and it flies away! Gyro gets the last word after all...
