SMALL MACHINES
  WDCS262 Way Out Yonder - 1962

Synopsis:
Donald and the nephews spend their holidays in the desert where they hope to find some valuable old fossils. A midget motor-bike catches Donald's eye...

Comments:
Driving around the desert on midget motor-bikes was the newest American craze at the time and that no doubt inspired Barks to make this story. But 8 years previously Barks had a go at another small machines craze; it happened in WDCS166 'Small Racers Race' when Donald tried to master midget racers on a racing track.

SPACESHIPS
  U$29 Island in the Sky - 1960

Synopsis:
Scrooge decides to hide all his money on an asteroid far away from thieves. But the asteroid is inhabited...

Comments:
As the so-called Space Age progressed Barks made an increasing number of stories that - at least partly - took place in space. The means of transport were rocketships that became increasingly more versatile, sophisticated and realistic from the simple one in WDCS093 'Race to the Moon' to the complicated one in DBP 'The Impenetrable Money Bin'.

TRAINED ANIMALS
  U$59 North of the Yukon - 1965

Synopsis:
Scrooge is in danger of loosing his entire fortune in a desperate dog sled race in Alaska...

Comments:
The ducks have used several kinds of trained and domestic animals as regular means of transport in the stories. Horses, donkeys, llamas, and a dromedary are examples. In this story we are spectators to a fast dog sled race, and in the other end of the spectrum Donald once drove slowly around in a bull-driven cart (WDCS182 'Grandma's Bull').

WILD ANIMALS
U$61 So Far and No Safari - 1966

Synopsis:
Scrooge hires Donald and the nephews to accompany him to Africa in order to buy a goldmine.
The kids are more interested in their animal call whistles...

Comments:
The ducks participate in
what must be one of the strangest travels in the history of funny animal stories; they cross a good portion of the African continent riding on buffaloes, giraffes, rhinos, gnus, zebras, hippos, warthogs, oryxes and impalas!

ICEBOATS
  WDCS174 'On Thin Ice' - 1955

Synopsis:
Donald has built an iceboat to haul mail across the frozen lake to Beaver Island. But the job is somewhat different from what he expects...

Comments:
Barks invented several special kinds of transportation for use on frozen lakes. This is one of them. In WDCS186 'Duelling Ice Taxis' he invented two more; Donald built a taxi from a motorboat, sled runners and an old ratchet wheel, while the nephews built their taxi from a sofa, sled runners and a lawn motor!

KITE
  WDCS068 'Kite Champion' - 1946

Synopsis:
Donald is stricken with megalomania and sees himself as the world's greatest kite flyer. And perhaps he is!

Comments:
Donald builds the largest kite in the world. But from being merely an impressive toy in his hands, the kite suddenly takes command and turns into an unusual means of transport!
