WDCS052 'The Trade Rat Story' - 1945

The 5th page of this 10-pager has survived solely because Western was contacted by a Donald Duck fan who asked for a page of art for his collection of Donald Duck memorabilia. He got it for free!

It has later been sold several times (upper half and lower half separately) to various Barks fans.

The final scene
(WDCS064) Silent Night - 1945

The 10-pager was refused by Western on account of the final torture scene, but it was meant to be published in WDCS064.

It was returned to Barks who kept it for a number of years, until a fan got it. By that time the splash panel (the first half-page) was missing.

Later, the pages were scattered: page 4 was sold in 1990, the upper half of page 7 was sold in 1983, the upper half of page 8 was sold in the early 1980s, and the upper halves of pages 9 and 10 were sold in 1984.

The scrapped panel
WDCS157 'The Demon Tooth Story' - 1953

Barks drew a 7th panel for page 10 (it would have been the last panel on the last page). Barks decided not to use the drawing, which shows Scrooge scorning Donald for having lost the competition of being first to the top of the mountain. Instead Barks ended the story showing Donald waking up from a dream.

Barks recalls: I believe I recall looking at the panel of Uncle Scrooge's money ramp and decided it looked too impossible to be real.

Scrapped panels 7 and 8 planned for page 6
WDCS175 'The Taffy Story' - 1955

Barks himself scrapped two panels and one page. The two panels were meant for the bottom of page 6 followed by the whole page 7.

Barks recalls: My reason for scrapping this sequence of business with the nurses and replacing it with the bear pit was that the nurse business was not funny and it could not be understood by a person who couldn't read the dialogue.

(WDCS215) 'The Milkman Story' - 1957

The 10-pager was refused by Western, because Donald was too mean to the villain. It was meant to be published in WDCS215.

Barks recalls: The original art for most of the story now resides in the Walt Disney Archives. ... A friend of mine made photostats of the complete 'Milkman' story while all the original artwork was still in the Western Publishing's offices in Los Angeles, but some of the artwork was later stolen. Presumably the missing artwork still exists, but I have no idea who has it.

WDCS235 Want to Buy an Island? - 1960

The whole 10-pager has survived. Page 10 was sold in 1982.

WDCS269 A Matter of Factory - 1963

The whole 10-pager has survived.

WDCS308 The Beauty Business - 1966

The whole 10-pager has survived, and was given to Barks by the publisher as a retirement present in 1966.
