  U$10 The Fabulous Philosopher's Stone - 1955

Synopsis:
Scrooge has found a lead to the stone that can change everything it touches to gold. But during the search he keeps stumbling over a bearded little man...

Comments:
The nephews keep their wits about them during the search for the stone, and they are not nearly as interested in gold and wealth as Scrooge. When he finally manages to find the fabulous stone, he turns all manic; he touches every object in the vicinity so many times that some of the stone's effect 'rubs' off on him, and he is about to turn slowly to gold. Luckily, the nephews are alert and prevent him from becoming a statue.

U$18 Land of the Pygmy Indians - 1957

Synopsis:
Scrooge longs for some peace and quiet so he buys a large, remote area to enjoy its tranquillity. But the land is inhabited...

Comments:
Barks was a concerned environmentalist all of his adult life, long before the term was even a household word. In his stories he would occasionally add some of his views in more or less disguised forms, but maybe his overall indignation of the way we treat our planet was best expressed in this story.
It is not a great surprise that the money-fixated Scrooge finds it hard to transform into an environmentalist, but the nephews have no trouble in this novel field, in fact, they continued their environmental work in several separate JW stories - and mostly with Scrooge as their opponent (see more
HERE).

  U$22 The Golden River - 1958

Synopsis:
Scrooge buys a valley for peace and quiet. But a waterfall there looks like it is flowing gold!

Comments:
This soon turns out to be another story, in which the nephews have to rescue Scrooge from his thirst for gold. At first, they aid in his convalescence by telling him harmless fairy tales, but when one of the stories about a golden river seems to come through in real life, the nephews have to calm him down again.

  U$23 The Strange Shipwrecks - 1958

Synopsis:
Scrooge's gold laden ships are mysteriously wrecked in Doomgurgle Straits and there is talk of a ghost. Donald and the nephews are looking into the matter...

Comments:
Donald acts as a self-appointed detective thinking he can solve the mysterious case in no time, but when it comes down to it, the nephews wind up being better and more alert detectives instead. They soon figure out where the gold is stashed and who the culprits are...

  U$29 Island in the Sky - 1960

Synopsis:
Scrooge decides to hide all his money on an asteroid far away from thieves. But the asteroid is inhabited...

Comments:
The nephews quickly establish friendly contacts with the little native Indians, and they do not hesitate to help them with food from their own limited supply. These unselfish actions convince Scrooge to also try and help the natives on a more permanent basis.

  U$30 Pipeline to Danger - 1960

Synopsis:
Scrooge wants to store vast amounts of oil in an old volcano crater that will serve as a giant oil tank. But he is not aware that the crater is inhabited...

Comments:
This is in a way a partly reverse story as Scrooge is, by the nephews, looked upon as A Big Operator, an admiration that lasts throughout the whole story. Still, they 'find time' to also rescue him and the pygmy inhabitants inside the crater from certain destruction...

U$45 Isle of the Golden Geese - 1963

Synopsis:
Scrooge finds a golden egg in a regular egg carton. He decides to find the supplier of such interesting eggs...

Comments:
When he finally arrives at the island, where the extremely gullible, female supplier lives, Scrooge tries to strike an unfair deal where he gets option on all the eggs her geese can lay. He also tries to get all their shed golden feathers in the bargain. A bargain in which he is prepared to go as high as 5 dollars for 'the whole kaboodle', as he puts it. Fanny Featherbrain (the name says it all) is inclined to agree to the deal, but the nephews step in and ensure that she gets a fair trade - much to Scrooge's dismay.

U$48 The Many Faces of Magica de Spell - 1964

Synopsis:
Magica discovers a brew which changes people's faces when sprayed upon them. Will Scrooge give up his number one dime for the antidote?

Comments:
Scrooge, Donald, and the nephews flee to the Valley of the Faceless People in order to get rid of the menacing sorceress, but she catches up with them. Then the nephews not only introduce masks that will keep the liquid from affecting the ducks' faces, they also come up with a solution to neutralize the brew - soap and water. Not even the clever and resourceful Magica manages to come up with that simple solution...

U$68 Hall of the Mermaid Queen - 1967

Synopsis:
One day all the money from the Money Bin disappears through a hole into the ocean. The ducks encounter mermaids and mermen in their quest to recover it.

Comments:
Scrooge and Donald dive deep down into the ocean, where the money are, while the nephews are left behind on the sonar ship to look after their safety. When things go awry in the deep, they come to their uncles' rescue.

  U$69 The Cattle King - 1967

Synopsis:
Scrooge is afraid that his crooked neighbour will steal his cattle and he hires Donald and the nephews to foil the rustler.

Comments:
This story is a mixture of many genres ranging from pure slapstick to detective work to intense thrills, and the nephews' roles are also reflected in these different layers; they dress up as female cooks, they foil pursuing bad guys, and in the end they are able to save a high-speed train from colliding with a trainload of explosives by use of a set of 'Differential equations in problematic variables for diminishing Ratios'...
