Carl Barks lived almost 100 years (1901-2000). Most of us, who are younger, have already lived in a number of dwellings and time will probably add to the number. This was also true for Barks, who lived in various residences for the greater parts of his life. With his parents, with his wives, and alone. Below you are treated to a - partly graphical - listing of Barks' many homes, but you must bear in mind that they are not all present and accounted for.

1901-1908

Barks was born on a farm in the vicinity of Merrill, Klamath County, Oregon.

1908-1911

The family moved to a nearby, rented farm in Midland, Klamath County, Oregon.

1911-1912

The family moved to Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California.

During the years from 1913, when his parents returned to Merrill, and until 1929, Barks made several journeys back to work for his parents.

1918-1923

Barks moved into a small furnished room in a hotel in San Francisco, California.

1923

Barks married Pearl Turner in 1921 and the couple's first daughter was born. The small family settled in Coalinga, Fresno County, California.

1923-1931

The couple now had two daughters and they moved to Roseville, Placer County, California.

1931-1935

A divorced Barks moved to Minneapolis in the prairie state of Minnesota where the Calgary EyeOpener magazine had offered him work. He had been living alone for a year in the Drexel Apartment Hotel, 1009 Park Ave N. In 1931 he met his next wife there: Clara Balken, who was a  telephone operator at the hotel.

1935-1942

The couple married in 1938 and moved to California where they lived in various apartments within walking distance of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, where Barks had landed a job. Most of the time they lived in this house on Riverton Avenue, just 5 kilometres (3 miles) west of the studios.

1942-1951

This is Barks' chicken ranch in Ramona Drive, Hemet, San Jacinto Valley, California. Neither the premises nor the street exist anymore (see more
HERE).

1951-1952

The couple broke up and Barks began a somewhat nomadic life as he lived in various places within the San Jacinto area. Nothing is known about his short-time whereabouts except that he lived a couple of years in an apartment in a remodeled sub-divided warehouse.

1952-1954

Towards the end of 1952 Barks relocated to a rented cottage near an orange grove outside Hemet. The owners of the attached ranch were Donald and Nancy Robinson.

1954-1965

Barks was married to his third wife Margaret Williams, called Garé, and they moved in at Poppy Drive, East Hemet south of San Jacinto.

1965-1969

The couple moved to West Washburn Avenue, North Hemet, in the San Jacinto Valley. The street number was 152 at the time but a year later it was changed to 165.

1969-1977

The couple moved to Goleta, Santa Barbara County, California.

1977-1983

The couple moved into a self-designed mobile home in Temecula, Riverside County, California.

1983-1993

The couple moved to 810 NE Oregon Avenue, Grants Pass, Oregon.

1993-2000

Barks, now a widower, spent his last years at 1415 NE Heritage Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon.
