It is the common belief that Carl Barks was the only one of Disney's writers and artists who was ever granted permission to produce paintings of the company's comic book characters, but that is not true. Floyd Gottfredson obtained a similar permission! It was commissioned by Malcolm Willits and ran from 1978 to 1983, covering a total of 24 paintings. The work mainly depicts scenes from some of Gottfredson's classic Mickey Mouse stories and they were all purchased by Willits and displayed in his home. He began auctioning them in 1993 at a rate of 3 to 6 paintings per year, so they are now spread between several avid collectors of distinct Mickey Mouse rarities.
This page presents you to a small selection of the paintings titled after the initial comic book stories.
