THE MEALS
Barks' choices
of meals for the ducks were rather stereotypical, presumably
because the food was not that important. In the morning, when the
ducks were planning the day's activities, Barks just needed them
to do something while they were talking. So the breakfasts
consisted mainly of pancakes. Stacks of pancakes. Curiously,
Barks never drew the ducks with more common breakfast food items
such as toast and jam.
In the middle of the day the ducks were always too engaged in
their activities to be seen eating. In fact, Barks only drew them
eating the normal American lunch - sandwiches, on two occasions.
In the evening the ducks were wrapping up their day, and they
would often have ample time to talk things through - over dinner.
Again, Barks presumably did not reflect that much over their
menu, because he had them eat lots of poultry, especially turkeys.
But at least he had the good sense not to have them eat roast
duck!
