DICK MOORES

1909-1986

Richard 'Dick' Arnold Moores began his career in 1931 as an assistant to Chester Gould, who had just started his enormously successful comic strip, Dick Tracy. After 5 years Moores went on to create a comic of his own called Jim Hardy, but in 1942 he joined Disney's. Moores was assigned to work on the comic book version of Mickey Mouse, who was drawn in a round and naive style, and on Donald Duck whom he made shorter and rounder than previous artists. Several stories featuring Brer Rabbit were among his finest work during this period. In 1956 he left Disney's to assist on Frank King's newspaper strip Gasoline Alley which he took over following King's death in 1969.
