Carl Barks invented several primary characters for his Disney comic book stories, and they have all had a great impact on his audience as well as his fellow artists. In fact, the characters' continuing success in the following years can partly be contributed to the many artists that took up drawing Barks' new characters. Graphically, they all made their own renderings of the characters in their own style, and it is interesting to see just how different the characters often came to be portrayed. On this page, in alphabetical order, you are presented to the recurring primary characters Barks invented - but shown in other artists' versions.
As a reader of Disney duck stories you will probably be familiar with some of the artists mentioned below (there are many more in most of the groups). If you wish to learn more about the artists, the Internet has several pages with their resumes.

Barks did not invent the three nephews (although he was briefly consulted about the characters during their 'birth'), but he later re-invented them as members of the world scout organization The Junior Woodchucks, which added rich details to their already full resumes. Again, many artists have taken up the 'new' Barks characters, as these few examples show. |
