Carl
Barks' professional life involved a lot more than his official comic
book work and his paintings. Hardly a day went by without fans
writing to him requesting sketches and drawings, and he
frequently received mail from official institutions asking him to
either attend a gathering or 'at least' produce some material for
them.
Barks was a kind man who would have loved to oblige, but the 24
hours in a day set a natural restriction to any good intentions.
Nevertheless, he would sometimes abide with the wishes of a fan
or an official organization and sit down at his drawing board.
Mostly without being paid.
These pages will show you a small sampling of the many unique
drawings Barks made during the years. They were all intended for
either a few persons or for events that would soon after be
forgotten. But they all deserve a better fate than that. So here
are some of them...
The drawings are divided into decades of origin, but there is no specific chronology within the pages because the exact dates of Barks' responses are not always known.
Carl Barks drew a lot more unique drawings for his fans than those published on the following pages. If you are the proud owner of one - and you would like to share the image - please email it to cbarks@cbarks.dk. Your drawing will then be published on this site for everyone to enjoy. |
