From 1935 to 1942, when he was at the Walt Disney Studios, Carl Barks was involved with a number of animated short cartoons, most of which were released (see more HERE
). However, a number of cartoons in which Barks often was the driving force never made it through the planning stages. There were many reasons, but in general they were not deemed good enough due to lack of appealing scripts, sustainable ideas, sufficient gag situations, and more. Usually, it was Walt Disney himself who shelved the work after having pointed out the weaknesses in the projects, and, in retrospect, it is only fair to state, that he was right in axing the work for the reasons mentioned above. In the sub-pages you are presented to a rundown of the unreleased cartoon projects in which Barks was more or less involved. Most of them had Donald Duck in the starring role, but the nephews, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Gus Goose, and Black Pete were also occasionally cast as well. All Barks' shelved cartoons are listed with a brief synopsis, followed by relevant comments, but as the cartoons never premiered nothing final can be said about production years or titles. Therefore the periods mentioned are for the shelved years, and the identification names are the work titles. As for accompanying sketch material you are shown no more than 3 panels for each short, in an attempted sequential order, enabling you to get a 'feel' of the goings on, although many more sketches are available for most of the projects.
