From time to time attempts have
been made to map Scrooge McDuck's life as seen or mentioned in
various duck stories. The attempts have been more or less
successful simply because the exercise is by no means
straightforward. Artists have come up with new bits for such a
timeline puzzle, while others have elaborated on existing ones.
A genuine Scroogean timeline should at least be based on Carl
Barks' stories for the simple fact that he invented Scrooge!
Therefore you are introduced to the first timeline ever
presenting all of the information Barks himself gave in either
graphic or written form in his stories until the year 1947. The
undertaking has been daunting, bordering on impossible, and
involving some occasional, deductive sleuthing. This means that
some of the timeline years are uncertain, because Barks was
rarely specific on that crucial point. In some instances he was
even contradictory when he, for instance, made statements from
which Scrooge's birth year can be deduced. According to different
passages in the stories Scrooge was born sometime between 1860
and 1881!!!
Whenever a year is quite clear from the stories it will be rendered in bold numbers. All other mentionings of years will be as accurate as can be given the material available. A great deal of effort has gone into conveying all the information as chronological - and logical - as possible. Hopefully, you will agree that the timeline is plausible as for the time frames in which the actions took place, so, dear Scrooge,
