Modelsheets are pages of drawings of characters done by the leading artists. They are done for two reasons. First, the sheets enable the artists to control the characters' appearances, specific features and relative heights. Second, they provide a platform for new artists to start out from. Barks did several modelsheets but he did not produce them for the first reason, (as he once announced that he never followed them anyway.) He made them because he was asked to by his employers.
Barks made his first modelsheets when he started at Disney's, some of which portrayed Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse. Just for the sake of nostalgia the modelsheet which he made for his second cartoon titled Donald's Ostrich from 1937 is reproduced below. You will also will find a few examples of modelsheets that cover a large part of his comic book career.
