Carl Barks' official 'tour of duty' in the
field of comic book stories spanned 1942 to 1966. In that period
of time he made hundreds of stories. But even during his
retirement years Barks stepped in from time to time; in the 1970s
he wrote a series of Junior Woodchucks stories, in the 1980s he
contributed numerous front covers to the Carl
Barks Library (CBL), and in the 1990s he
wrote and sketched a brand new story which premiered in Denmark
and Norway in 1994 as D94003 Horsing Around
with History.
The very last story in which Barks was involved premiered in 2000
in Italy as I TES3-1 Somewhere in Nowhere,
written by John Lustig, and drawn by Patrick Block (see more HERE). Barks came up
with the initial story idea and synopsis, and then served as a
consultant on the project that was to be his last hurrah in the
field of comic book stories that had begun 58 years earlier with FC0009
Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold (see more HERE).
This website is grateful to have received Block's permission to show you Barks' written comments to the story as it progressed. A selection of them are rendered below mostly as single panels followed by the corresponding published panels for comparison.
