All of the primary characters in Carl Barks' funny animal comic book stories have had their ups and downs through the years. When they failed, they always had a price to pay in the end whether it be loss of prestige, credibility, reputation, or money. This page gives a few examples of some of Donald Duck's most regrettable - and most spectacular - moments.

WDCS132 'The JW Merit Badges'

Sometimes Donald is equipped with an Ego that defies normal common sense. He likes to brag about his self-appointed know-it-all abilities, which always backfire. In this story he blemishes himself repeatedly in front of his nephews.

WDCS146 'Omelet'

Donald often seems to get into most avoidably bad situations out of pure thickheadedness. In this story he is quickly over his head in chickens and eggs - and he manages to destroy an entire valley town...

WDCS204 'The Nose Job'

Donald is mostly besieged by bad luck because of his alarming lack of common sense. In this story he winds up transforming the giant stone face of Senator Snoggin in the Mount Mushmore Park into that of a gorilla.

WDCS129 'Swimming Pool Garden'

In some cases Donald is hard to blame for his failures. In this story he is mostly the victim of circumstances, when all sorts of uninvited characters trespass on his property and cause havoc.

WDCS164 'Flour Salesman'

Quite often Donald seems to attract problems much like a magnet attracts metal. In this baking demonstration story he fails to call for guidance when the required results fail to emerge.

WDCS161 'The Fix-It Shop'

Donald is overpowered by his own lack of skills when he establishes a fix-it shop based on a do-it-yourself book. Everything goes awry, and he ends up closing the shop for good...

WDCS147 'A Needy Person - Not!'

Although he often seems to think he can, Donald really has no chance to compete with Gladstone's eternal good luck. This is certainly true in this story when Donald tries to cheat - Gladstone gets all the breaks, Donald gets all the - bills...

FC0223 Lost in the Andes

By coincidence, Donald discovers square eggs from Peru, and he manages to bring home two of the sensational square chickens to be used for breeding. But they both turn out to be males, and Donald is heartbroken.

WDCS073 'The Elusive Watch'

Donald buys an expensive gold wrist watch for Daisy, but the watch gets broken and Donald throws it away. In the end it reappears mysteriously in a cake. Donald goes crazy trying to figure out what has happened...

WDCS066 'The Fishing Expert'

Donald goes from bad luck to calamities to catastrophes in his numerous attempts to catch a certain fish with ingredients from bait to dynamite. Finally the nephews catch the fish for him without any trouble at all. Donald marches off mumbling.

WDCS143 'Gems from Above'

Once again, Donald decides to put a stop to Gladstone's luck by selling him a worthless piece of land. But things change to Gladstone's advantage, as he gets a load of gemstones. All Donald is left with is a single diamond - that is not even real...

WDCS286 The Olympian Torchbearer

Donald is elected to carry the Olympic torch from Goosetown to Duckburg, but, of course, he is not able to perform the task without setting fire to everything on his way. He bungles up big time, and even his girlfriend, Daisy, ends up scoffing him...
